    6 Attributes of Cereal Boxes

    Cereal boxes are specially designed for the foolproof sales and purchase of nutritious cereals that would simply lose all that is good within them if they are not well packed and looked after. These boxes can be made from any type of cardboard variant depending on the essential nature and consistency of the cereal that is to be packed in them. They can have a difference in size and variants in shapes, and they can likewise be in any density or thinness that the consumer may want to have them in. Some of the most unique shapes and cutouts have been introduced in this type of packaging.

    Cartoon characters and action figures pop-ups can be included with the box to make the young ones get attracted towards them in an instant. They can be added up with insert cushions and insulations to retain the nutrition of the packed cereal to the maximum while keeping it securely packed in its place.

    The attributes of any type of packaging pertain to the functions that it has to perform. The same is the case with cereal boxes, they are supposed to perform certain functions with respect to the effective packaging of cereals, and their attributes are likewise according to these functions. Here we are going to explore six of the most prominent ones that necessarily have to be there in a cereal pack to make it practically usable for the packaging of cereals.

    • Multi-Faceted Boxes:

    These boxes are essentially made to be multi-purpose since there is no set rule of the ingredients that a cereal item would have. Mueslis, for instance, have certain nuts and dried prunes in them. Both these ingredients need a certain temperature and air exposure to make them stay fresh for a long period of time without giving out that stale stench that is an immediate signal to the buyers that the product is not freshly made. Cornflakes and puffed rice need their packaging to be essentially air-tight. Any kind of exposure to the outer environment can immediately drench them from their essential crunch that makes these eatables popular amongst their consumers.

    This is primarily the reason why the packaging for cereals is done in two ways. The cereal itself is packed in an airlock bag that is made of vinyl or polythene depending upon the requirements of the packed item, and then there is an exterior box that encompasses that bag within itself. The exterior box does have some elements of protection added to it, but the interior box is where the actual security action takes place.

    • Freedom of Size:

    This is an attribute that the consumers make the most from. There is no set size for these boxes. Although there are is a standard size that they need to be 12 inches tall and 8 inches wide, they can be as tall or as wide as their consumer may want them to be. As we have established before that the actual product is packed in an initial internal packaging, so this secondary packaging can truly explore the idealistic limits of its consumers. This freedom from any set standard size also enables retailers to place as many of these boxes in the little space that they have, making them a favorite item for the retailers. Also, the cereal businesses can also make the most out of their allowed space and fit in as many souvenirs or giveaways that they may want to offer to their customers.

    • Enigmatic Shapes:

    Every now and then, we hear a familiar sentence from a random kid in the retail shops that ‘mom, I want that cereal’ when asked why? The reply is almost always the same ‘it looks good. This is the impact that shape psychology has on purchasers. Cereal brands mostly target kids and children while coming up with shapes and graphics that are to be placed on their boxes. This is the reason why most of the time, you would see some of the most diet-conscious cereal packed in a box that has the figure of Garfield cutout on it.

    These boxes have graphics and pictures that are the trend of the day. Any rising sports person or action figure is a hit on these boxes. Brands try their best to assert to their buyers that they would have a health boost like that of the figure that is there on the box, and the funny part is, most of the times people, and if not people, all the times’ kids, and children do fall for this trick.

    • Biologically Safe:

    What better way to assert your biological concerns than to represent them through your organic and eco-friendly cereal packaging? It also gives out a strong message that if the consumer company is that much conscious about the betterment and health of the environment, how much conscious would it be about human health? And this is where the sales pitch hits in. Packaging vendors have introduced millions of ways to satisfy the eco tooth of their customers. Eco tooth? Well, that is a new one. So getting back to the point, nowadays, even consumable packaging is available in the market where the box can be actually torn and added to the bowl of cereal and eaten. Wonder how we would have felt about it a couple of years ago if we saw someone tearing off a box and eating it? Hmmm

    • Freedom of Space:

    Since these boxes come in only half-filled since the cereal is packed in a bag that has air that allows a place for the cereal to move to another place of it is compressed in any way whatsoever, the businesses can make the most of this space in any way that they want to. Mostly we see a packed cereal bowl giveaway added in the box, or essentially a spoon, and a bowl is added in the box by some brands. These little gimmicks are pretty much achievable because of that extra bit of space that is already there in the box design and does not cost the brand anything extra.

    • A Healthy Shot at Branding:

    A practically designed cereal box packaging is an ideal and healthy chance towards branding for any business that is into cereal manufacturing. These boxes usually stand tall and bright on the market aisles and are placed in areas that are easily visible by the shoppers. Highlighted logos, bold typography, and high-resolution graphics all add up on these boxes to make your brand name stand tall and bright in front of numerous potential customers.

    These and many other attributes of the cereal boxes make them a household box that is retained and reused for a long period of time. Many of us keep them to store our small items or documents or some other kitchen item and much more. Even if they are not used for storage, kids love to cut the figures from them and paste them on their pinboards. These boxes are an ideal source of not just packing the cereal products, but they are also equally fantastic at presenting the item beautifully and aptly towards its target audience.
