Joens was the top scorer with 22 points, followed by Morgan Kane with 17 points. Although they had a slow start, the team quickly regained momentum and took a 25-18 lead with a late 3-pointer by Lexi Donarski, which boosted their confidence.

Joens is Iowa State’s all-time leading scorer and has been a key player for the team. Fans will have the chance to see her play at Hilton Coliseum for a few more times before she graduates. Her final regular season home game will be on March 4 against Texas Tech. Her coach, Fennelly, is hopeful that she will continue to perform well and give the fans one more good game.

Why is the Iowa State women’s Basketball team called Cyclones’?
The team is known as the Cyclones, which is a nod to the school’s agricultural roots. In the late 1800s, the school’s football team was nicknamed the “Cardinals” due to the color of their uniforms. However, in 1895, a football game against Northwestern University took place during a cyclone (tornado), which caused significant damage to the surrounding area. The Iowa State football team managed to win the game, and the media referred to them as “cyclones” due to the weather event. The name stuck, and the Iowa State athletic teams have been known as the Cyclones ever since.
