According to Forest Hill police, a 30-year-old man North Texas rapper G$ Lil Ronnie, whose real name was Chuckie Smith and a 5-year-old girl were inside a car wash bay when two men exited a four-door Kia and opened fire. The suspects fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Responding officers attempted life-saving measures, but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
Victims Identified
While police have yet to officially release the names, family members confirmed to FOX 4 that the victims were Chuckie Smith, better known as rapper G$ Lil Ronnie, and his 5-year-old daughter.
“He was a rapper. He didn’t bother anybody. He didn’t target anybody. He was a family man just doing his thing,” said Stella Houston, the victim’s aunt.
Houston added that the little girl had just celebrated her birthday on Sunday, making the loss even more heartbreaking.
“They were just cleaning the car, and somebody came through shooting and killed him and his baby,” she said.
Eyewitness Accounts
Becky Johnson, who lives across the street from the car wash, described hearing multiple rounds of gunfire from inside her home.
“I heard six shots, then a half-second later, six more. Then a second later, three more,” she recalled.
She described a chaotic scene where people were seen scrambling for safety.
Investigation & Suspect Search
Police have identified one of the suspects and issued an arrest warrant. However, they have yet to release the suspect’s name publicly. The second suspect remains unidentified.
Authorities believe the shooting was targeted but have not disclosed a possible motive. Additional officers were called to the scene for crowd control due to the large number of people who gathered after the incident.
Community Impact & Safety Concerns
The car wash has been shuttered and is aiding authorities with their investigation.
Forest Hill has already had five killings in 2025. Prior to this tragedy, two individuals were slain at a car dealership in February, and another was killed by a stray gunshot. In comparison, the city had no documented murders in 2024.
As the investigation continues, authorities want anybody with information to come forward.
