Secret Habits That are Damaging Your Vehicle

You yourself could be the reason behind the damage to your vehicle. No matter how hurtful this accusation sounds it is true in many ways. Don’t worry, we aren’t here to upset you over the last time you ignored the engine check light or blasted that music to avoid the engine’s cry (serious judgment here), but as a matter of fact, our vehicles are subjected to a lot of stress and tough time each day. And more often than not we are the ones who put them through this stress of being overworked.

If you own a car or planning to purchase one recently then you must be aware of the ways in which you are reducing your car’s life to end slowly even though unintentionally. This article will cover some basic day-to-day practices that damage your automobile in ways you cannot repair.

Not Investing in Vehicle

Cheap things have many buyers but your vehicle that has cheap auto parts in it will have no buyer during the resale. Yes, even if your car has the shiniest body, sleekest design, and a very attractive company name on it, the spare parts you used during the maintenance or repair will tell the horrible story itself.

Not only do they look bad but also deteriorate the performance over time. The cost you save on your vehicle by spending various dollars less will be compensated when you have to replace the brakes every two months. So our advice? Invest well even it costs you a little more. And with the Autozone promo code, you can get expensive high-quality items for less too!

Not Letting the Vehicle Gear Stick Go

This isn’t because you are always in the fear of drive or brake, but setting your hand on a gear stick is a commonly observed practice. It is a usual posture adopted by drivers to drive peacefully while they are focusing on the road or maybe zoning out. While this little practice may not seem like doing any harm but car manufacturers aren’t happy with it.

Resting your hand on gear stick damages the car’s gearbox. The selector fork which is present in the gearbox can go through tiny but considerable wear and tear due to the hand pressure resting on it.

Overloading the Vehicle

Just because it fits doesn’t mean you should take it. Overloading the car is no different. Our cars are just machines that come with clear specifications. Only if you check the owner’s manual you would know the maximum load capacity of your car. Anything beyond that is unsafe. To take our advice? Go a little lesser than the maximum capacity of your car and thank us later.

Overloading the car does a lot more damage than you would ever realize. Slowly it puts a lot of pressure on suspension brakes and soon you will have to take that much-hated trip to the mechanic.

Not Avoiding Road Bumps

Road bumps make your head hurt for a reason. They are to be avoided at all costs, just because your vehicle drives you over them doesn’t mean you should unsee them every time a bad road comes in front. Road bumps can cause damage to the suspension brakes and lower body of the vehicle.

By taking caution when avoiding road bumps you have a lesser chance of damaging the car and thus improve its life. Moreover, you never know what lies in the bumpy road region. Could be a nail to blow out the tires. Either way, make sure to avoid them at all costs.

Not Paying Attention to the Warning Lights

There are enough memes about the warning lights and how we ignore them like being ghosted. Warning lights are there for a reason and that reason is pretty considerable to make sure your car lives.

Many drivers take this toxic approach of ignoring the warning lights until they go away on their own but you know what? The problem comes back again, bigger and worse. Make sure you always have the owner’s car manual by your side and check why each time engine is giving light.

Leave That Clutch Alone

Let the clutch take the load when necessary. There is no point in overloading it will all the emotions and blame of getting late. Riding the clutch, again and again, causes so much damage you won’t even realize. And soon you will be spending hours at the mechanic shop and find yourself there again in few weeks. The trick here is to lift your foot as soon as you change the gear.

Dragging the Brakes

Are you in fast and furious 11? We don’t think so! Dragging the brakes is a bad habit that will cause brake pads and discs to wear out faster. As a result, you’ll have to replace the brakes more regularly, which will increase your driving costs unnecessarily.

When going downhill, it’s better to shift into low gear, use minimal braking, and then let go of the pedal to let the brakes cool.

Know When to Change the Gear

Many modern automobiles include a gearshift indication light that indicates when it’s time to shift up or down a gear. These are usually configured for the economy, so you’ll be short-shifting to get the most out of them.

Keep an eye out for the downshift icon or be ready to downshift if required. Accelerating at low rpm or in too high a gear causes the engine to work harder, putting extra strain on the transmission.
